Baku: giornata complicata per PREMA in F2, Montoya fa punti ma due ritiri per il team

PREMA Racing ha vissuto una giornata difficile sul circuito cittadino di Baku nel weekend di FIA Formula 2. Sebastián Montoya è riuscito a recuperare e a raccogliere punti nella Sprint Race, mentre né lui né il compagno Mari Boya sono riusciti a portare a termine la Feature Race 1. Boya, in particolare, è stato costretto al ritiro in entrambe le gare.

Sprint Race

Partendo in quarta posizione, Montoya è stato passato da Rafael Câmara a Turn 3 durante la ripartenza seguita a una Safety Car, ma ha mostrato un buon passo di recupero e ha concluso la corsa in settima posizione, ottenendo 2 punti per il team.

Boya, invece, è stato coinvolto in un incidente nelle prime fasi: in curva 2 un blocco di Câmara ha causato la collisione con la vettura di Boya, che ha terminato la sua gara contro le barriere senza completare nemmeno un giro. Per quell’incidente Câmara è stato poi penalizzato con 10 secondi.

Feature Race 1

Boya aveva mostrato segnali positivi anche nella Feature: dopo una partenza pulita si era portato in quinta posizione e aveva effettuato il pit stop per montare gomme Soft. Purtroppo la sua gara è finita dopo sette giri a causa di un guasto meccanico che lo ha costretto a rallentare e fermarsi a Turn 2.

Montoya, invece, non ha preso il via della Feature: un spin sulla strada per la griglia ha impedito la partenza (Feature Race Result: DNS).

“Mixed day today. I think we maximised the Sprint Race this morning very well, we were lacking some speed, but we did a good job finishing back in the points. It obviously wasn’t an easy race, and we would have wanted to fight for the podium, starting from P4, but in the end just finishing in the points again was really strong.

“Not being able to start Feature Race 1 was difficult. It’s a shame, as there were a few things we wanted to try to keep improving. So, yeah, a mixed day today, we got some good information though, and we just need to focus for tomorrow.”

#12 – MARI BOYA

“A really tough day, to be honest. We were taken out in Race 1 and didn’t do a single lap. The car feels quite good this weekend and I really wanted to enjoy the racing here, so it was a shame.

“Then in Race 2, even without any experience from Race 1, we made a good step with the car. We were running comfortably in P5. We’d already done our pit stop but then a mechanical failure meant we had to retire. It was a hard day, but tomorrow we have another chance.

“We need to analyse the laps we did today, to try to maximise tomorrow as best we can, and we have a good opportunity.”
